Embrace the Path of Discipleship
Join us in exploring the rich history and enduring mission of the Singapore Gospel Halls, where faith and community come together.
Our Rich Heritage
The Singapore Gospel Halls have a storied past, beginning in the mid 19th century. Over the century, we have grown from a small gathering of believers into a vibrant community dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus. Key milestones include the establishment of our first hall in 1900, the expansion to multiple locations across Singapore, and our ongoing commitment to nurturing faith through various ministries. Our mission remains steadfast: to be a beacon of hope and a place where individuals can deepen their relationship with Christ.

1867
Founding of Singapore Gospel Halls
In 1862, Tan See Boo left the Presbyterian communion with Reverend Alexander Grant to found the Chinese Mission of the Plymouth Brethren.
At that time, the fledgling Chinese congregation looked to Tan for leadership. When Tan resigned from the Presbyterian mission, other Chinese Christians also left and joined the Brethren. Until 1867 when the Chinese Gospel Hall (CGH) was established, the Chinese congregation under Tan held their meetings at the Bethesda Chapel.
CGH was also known as the Chinese Presbyterian Church, and locally as Hok Im Kuan or Hok Im Koan. It was located at the junction of North Bridge Road, along a small lane parallel to Bras Brasah Road.

In 1941, it was bombed and completely destroyed in World War II. After the war ended in 1945, Tan’s grandson sold the land and used the money to build a larger CGH in Geylang
